Akra railway station is a Kolkata Suburban Railway Station on the Sealdah–Budge Budge line with an approximate 19 kilometres (12 mi) distance from Sealdah railway station. It is under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway zone. Akra railway station is one of the busiest railway stations of Sealdah railway division. More than 45 pairs of E.M.U. Local Trains ply through the railway station on a daily basis. It is situated in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian State of West Bengal. Akra railway station serves Akra city and the surrounding areas.[1][2]

History
In 1890 , the Eastern Bengal Railway constructed a 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide Broad Gauge Railway from Sealdah to Akra.
Electrification
Electrification of the Sealdah–Akra line was completed with 25 kV AC overhead system in 1965–66.
