The 2014 Cape Verdean Football Championship final was the final of the 2014 Cape Verdean Football Championships, which was the 35th edition of the Cape Verdean Football Championships and 28th with the knockout stage.[1] It was the final time the championship final was played in May due to that a few days later in June, viewers tuned to the 2014 World Cup which took place in Brazil.

In Cape Verde, the finals were televised live on TCV and listened on radio on RCV.

The final was played between CS Mindelense from São Vicente and Académica of Fogo. The winners did not compete into the Cape Verdean Super Cup and the 2015 CAF Champions League in the following season, primarily due to its schedule, a part of it, the regional championship and cup competitions within it.

The 2014 football championship final was Mindelense's was their twelfth appearance in their 95 year history and also their second consecutive and Académica do Fogo's first and only appearance in their 52 years of existence. The other club was the third and last from Fogo who appeared at the national championship final.

Background

At group stage, both were participants of Group B, they qualified into the semis and placed in different parts, the two advanced to the finals.

CS Mindelense had reached the national championship final twelve times, winning nine of them. The last time they won a championship title was last season in 2013 where they defeated Académica do Porto Novo with a total of 5 goals to 2 in two of its matches.

Académica do Fogo had never competed in a national championship final match.

Mindelense won their 10th national football championship title and was also their second consecutive, its total number of titles superseded Sporting Praia's totals by one.[2] Mindelense qualified into the 2014 national super cup, and later the national championships in the following season.
