The 2007–08 Santiago Island League (South) season began on 17 November and finished on 4 May. Sporting, the possessor of the most regional titles overall on the island once more won the regional competition and qualified into the 2008 Cape Verdean Football Championships. With Sporting who won the national title last season, second placed AD Bairro also qualified and made their only national appearance. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS).[1][2] All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea.

Again, Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 18 clubs participated in the competition, 10 in both divisions.[2]

Overview

The club Ribeira Grande was the next club based outside of the city of Praia to appear in the Premier Division probably since Os Garridos.

A total of 262 goals were scored, more than last season. Sporting scored the most with 45 and dominated, second was Académica with 30 and third was second placed Bairro with 33.. The least was Vila Nova with 10, second were 16 goals made by both Celtic and Ribeira Grande.[2] On the opposites, Vila Nova conceded the most with 33, second least were Celtic and Ribeira Grande with 30. Sporting conceded the least with 14.

In the Second Division competition,, Varanda won the title and would be promoted next season. 9th placed Ribeira Grande remained in the division after winning the decisional match competitions. Vila Nova was relegated and competed in the Second Division next season, Vila Nova's appearance at the Premier Division was their recent.
