Travadores won the regional competition and qualified into the 2003 Cape Verdean Football Championships, the first into two groups and with a knockout phase later in the season. The championship was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association (Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago Sul, ARFSS).[1][2] All matches were played at Campo de Sucupira which was temporarily used up until 2007. The field no longer exists today and several buildings dominate the former field.
Sporting Praia was the defending team of the title. A total of 10 clubs participated in the competition, only one division occurred again for the third time, the Premier Division. The main reason was that Tchadense, Varanda and Asa Grande continued to be withdrawn from the competition.[2]
