The 1965–66 Iraqi Central Premier League was the 10th season of the Iraqi Central League (the top division of football in central Iraq (i.e. the capital city of Baghdad) from 1956 to 1974), and the first under the name of Premier League. It kicked off on 15 October 1965 and ended on 2 June 1966. This was the first competition in the history of Iraqi football that featured a double round-robin format where each team played all the other teams in the league twice, once home and once away. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha won their first league title, and the first title in the history of the teams that were later merged to form Al-Jaish in 1974. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha also beat third-placed Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 1–0 in the one-match Al-Muthabara Cup.[1]
