Ollur was a citadel of Indian National Congress for a long time, yet occasionally it had gone to Communist Party of India. The constituency has 84,452 male and 90,027 female voters. The voters of Ollur Constituency are mainly farmers and daily workers.

The Constituency includes Mannuthy, Thalore and the hilly regions of Western Ghats. Tile factories, Timber and wooden packing boxes, Rolled gold ornaments are the main businesses which occur in this Constituency. Peechi Dam, Kerala Agricultural University, KFRI, Sri C. Achutha Menon Government College, Kuttanellur, Government Arts and Science College, Ollur, B.Ed College, Ollur Industrial Estate are also situated in Ollur Constituency. Christian people and church play a decisive role in electoral process of the Constituency. [3][4]

As of the 2016 assembly elections, the current MLA is K. Rajan of CPI.
