Scott Thomas Blewett (born April 10, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Blewett attended Charles W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville, New York.[1] As a senior, he was the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for New York.[2] Blewett was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft.[3][4] He made his professional debut with the Burlington Royals and spent 2014 there, going 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA in eight games, with seven of those being starts.

Blewett played 2015 and 2016 with the Lexington Legends, posting a 3-5 record with a 5.20 ERA in 2015 and an 8-11 record with a 4.31 ERA in 2016, and 2017 with the Wilmington Blue Rocks,[5] where he went 7-10 with a 4.07 ERA in a career high 152.2 innings pitched.[6]

Andrew David Edwards (born October 7, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Edwards attended Marshall County High School in Benton, Kentucky and played college baseball at Rend Lake College and Western Kentucky University.[7] He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.[8] He signed and spent 2013 with both the Burlington Royals and Wilmington Blue Rocks, posting a combined 2-1 record and 1.16 ERA in 23.1 total relief innings between the two teams. In 2014, he played for the Lexington Legends and Wilmington, compiling a 3-9 record and 4.98 ERA in 86.2 total innings, and in 2015, he returned to Wilmington, going 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 29 relief appearances. Edward spent 2016 with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and Omaha Storm Chasers, pitching to a combined 0-1 record, 3.96 ERA, and 1.48 WHIP in 61.1 innings pitched between both teams.

The Royals added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[9] He was designated for assignment on July 30, 2017, to make room for Melky Cabrera who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox. He spent 2017 with Wilmington, Northwest Arkansas, and Omaha, collecting a 4-1 record and 6.00 ERA in 28 total relief appearances.[10]

Samir Yarin Dueñez De Sousa (born June 11, 1996) is a Venezuelan professional baseball first baseman in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Dueñez signed with the Kansas City Royals as an international free agent in July 2012.[11] He made his professional debut in 2013 with the AZL Royals, batting .294 with 19 RBIs in 47 games. In 2014, he played for the Lexington Legends and the Idaho Falls Chukars, compiling a combined .267 batting average with one home run and 36 RBIs in 80 games, and in 2015, he played for Lexington, batting .266 with one home run and 37 RBIs in 101 games. He spent 2016 with Lexington, the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, slashing .284/.336/.438 with 13 home runs, 100 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 138 games between three three clubs.

The Royals added Dueñez to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[9] He spent 2017 with Northwest Arkansas where he hit .252 with 17 home runs and 75 RBIs in 132 games.[12] He began 2018 back with Northwest Arkansas.

Fred Foster Griffin (born July 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Griffin was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the first round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft out of The First Academy.[13][14][15] He signed on June 10,[16] and was assigned to the Burlington Royals, where he posted a 3.21 ERA in 28 innings pitched. Griffin spent 2015 with the Lexington Legends where he went 4-6 with a 5.44 ERA. In 2016, Griffin split time between Lexington and the Wilmington Blue Rocks, where he posted a combined 6-4 record and a 5.43 ERA between the two teams. He spent 2017 with both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals where he went a combined 15-7 with a 3.35 ERA between both clubs.[17]

Kelvin Gutiérrez

Kelvin Manuel Gutiérrez (born August 28, 1994) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Gutiérrez was signed out of the Dominican Republic as an international free agent by the Nationals in 2013. While signed as a shortstop, the Nationals moved him to third base as his primary position. He made his professional debut in 2013 with the DSL Nationals, batting .255 in 60 games. In 2014, he played for the GCL Nationals where he compiled a .286 batting average with 25 RBIs in 53 games, and in 2015, he played for the Auburn Doubledays where he slashed .305/.358/.414 with one home run and 30 RBIs in 62 games. He spent 2016 with the Hagerstown Suns where he batted .300/.349/.406 with three home runs, 48 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases in 96 games. He also played in ten games for the Potomac Nationals at the end of the season.

In 2017, Baseball America ranked him as having the best infield arm in the Nationals organization.[18] He was assigned to Potomac to begin the 2017 season. After ranking as the Nationals' 26th-best prospect midway through the 2016 season,[19] Gutiérrez catapulted to the 12th spot in the system by mid-2017, according to MLB Pipeline.[20] He was named to participate in the Carolina League All-Star Game in 2017,[21] although he was unable to play due to an injury suffered June 9 while running the bases.[22] He spent all of 2017 with Potomac, hitting .288 with two home runs and 16 RBIs in only 58 games due to injury.[23] After the 2017 season ended, Gutiérrez played for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League, leading the team in hitting with a .350 average. The Nationals added Gutiérrez to their 40-man roster after the 2017 season.[24] He began 2018 with the Harrisburg Senators.

On June 18, 2018, Gutiérrez (along with Blake Perkins and Yohanse Morel) was traded to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Kelvin Herrera.[25]

Khalil Rashad Lee (born June 26, 1998) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Lee graduated from Flint Hill School in Oakton, Virginia, where he played on their baseball team as both a pitcher and outfielder. As a senior, he pitched to a 7-0 record with a 0.33 ERA, striking out 87 in 43 innings pitched, along with batting .471 with six home runs, 23 RBIs, a .634 OPB and a .941 OPS. He was named the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for the state of Virginia.[26]

Lee was committed to play baseball at Liberty University.[27] However, after he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft, he chose to sign with the Royals for $579,700[28] rather than attended college. The Royals chose to assign him to the AZL Royals as an outfielder,[29] and in 49 games, he batted .269 with six home runs, 29 RBIs, 43 runs scored, and eight triples along with an .880 OPS. He spent 2017 with the Lexington Legends where he posted a .237 batting average with 17 home runs, 61 RBIs, 18 stolen bases and a .344 OBP in 121 games.[30]

MLB.com ranked Lee as Kansas City's top prospect going into the 2018 season.[31] He began the season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks and was promoted to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in June. In 100 games between the two clubs, he batted .263 with six home runs and 51 RBIs.[32]

Nicholas Lopez (born March 13, 1995) is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Lopez attended Naperville Central High School in Naperville, Illinois and played college baseball at Creighton University.[33] He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the fifth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.[34][35]

Lopez made his professional debut with the Burlington Royals[36] and spent the whole 2016 season there, posting a .281 batting average with six home runs, 29 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 62 games. In 2017, he spent time with both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, batting a combined .279 with two home runs, 38 RBIs, 24 stolen bases and a .704 OPS in 129 games.[37][38] After the season, the Royals assigned Lopez to the Surprise Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League.[39] He began 2018 with Northwest Arkansas and was promoted to the Omaha Storm Chasers in June. In 130 total games between the two clubs, Lopez batted .308/.382/.417 with nine home runs and 53 RBIs.[40]

Richard Tyler Lovelady (born July 7, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Lovelady attended First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia and played college baseball at East Georgia State College and Kennesaw State University.[41] He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 10th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.[42]

Lovelady made his professional debut with the Arizona League Royals and was promoted to the Idaho Falls Chukars during the season; in 25 total relief innings pitched between both teams, he posted a 2-1 record, 1.80 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP[43] In 2017, he spent time with both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, pitching to a combined 4-2 record and 1.62 ERA in 66.2 total relief innings pitched.[44][45] Lovelady spent 2018 with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, going 3-3 with a 2.47 ERA in 46 relief appearances.[46]

Daniel A. Lynch (born November 17, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Lynch played baseball at Douglas S. Freeman High School in Henrico, Virginia, and for the Virginia Cavaliers baseball team.[47] During his freshman year at Virgnia, he appeared in 13 games with nine starts and went 1–3 with a 5.49 earned run average (ERA) and 37 strikeouts. As a sophomore, he made 14 starts, going 7–5 with a 5.00 ERA with 45 strikeouts. The following summer, he pitched for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League, making six starts and posting a 4-0 record with a 2.04 ERA and 25 strikeouts. During his junior season, Lynch went 4-4 over the course of 13 starts with a 3.96 ERA and 105 strikeouts.[48]

The Kansas City Royals selected Lynch with the 34th overall pick in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft.[49] He signed with the Royals on June 10, 2018 for $1.7 million.[50] He made his professional debut with the Burlington Royals of the Rookie-level Appalachian League.[51]

Seuly Matias (born September 4, 1998) is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Matias signed with the Kansas City Royals as an international free agent in July 2015.[52] He spent his first professional season in 2016 with the Dominican Summer League Royals and Arizona League Royals, batting a combined .235/.333/.439 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs in 53 total games between both clubs.

In 2017, Matias played for the Burlington Royals where he hit .243 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs in 57 games,[53] and in 2018 he started with the Lexington Legends.[54][55][56]

Erick Mejia

Erick Mejia is a professional baseball infielder in the Kansas City Royals organization. He was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Seattle Mariners on June 30, 2012 and then traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for pitcher Joe Wieland on January 12, 2016. He was a post-season all-star with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2016 when he hit .287 in 124 games.

On January 4, 2018, Mejia was traded to the Kansas City Royals in a three team trade that also sent Jake Peter and Scott Alexander to the Dodgers, Joakim Soria and Luis Avilán to the Chicago White Sox and Trevor Oaks to the Royals.[57]

Mervyl S. Melendez (born November 29, 1998) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Melendez attended St. James School in Montgomery, Alabama for three years before transferring to Westminster Christian School in Palmetto Bay, Florida for his senior year. He was a member of the United States national team in 2016.[58] His father, Mervyl Melendez, is the head coach of the Florida International Panthers baseball team, and he had signed to play college baseball there.[59] The Kansas City Royals selected him in the second round, 52nd overall, of the 2017 MLB Draft.[60]

Melendez signed with Kansas City for $2.1 million[61] and spent 2017 with the AZL Royals where he posted a .262 batting average with four home runs, 30 RBIs, and a .790 OPS in 47 games.[62] He began 2018 with the Lexington Legends.

MLB.com ranked Melendez as Kansas City's fourth ranked prospect going into the 2018 season.[63]

Blake Alexander Perkins (born September 10, 1996) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Kansas City Royals organization.

The Washington Nationals drafted Perkins in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft out of Verrado High School in Buckeye, Arizona. He was the 69th overall selection.[64] Although an Arizona State University Sun Devils commit, Perkins chose to sign with the Nationals for an $800,000 bonus.[65]

After signing, Perkins made his professional debut with the GCL Nationals where he hit .211 with one home run and 12 RBIs in 49 games. He spent a majority of 2016 with the Auburn Doubledays, slashing .233/.318/.281 with one home run, 16 RBIs, and ten stolen bases in 59 games. He also played in seven games for the Hagerstown Suns at the end of the season.[66] In 2017, Perkins was Hagerstown's starting center fielder and usual leadoff hitter, sharing an outfield with the likes of top Nationals prospects Juan Soto and Daniel Johnson.[67]

Perkins was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Nationals' 11th-best prospect entering the 2018 season, in which he started the year with the Potomac Nationals.[68] After batting .234 with one home run through 65 games at the new level,[69] during the Carolina League All-Star Break, Perkins was traded to the Kansas City Royals as part of a prospect package for Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera on June 18, 2018.[70] He was assigned to the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Jonathan Wade Perrin (born May 23, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals organization.

Perrin attended Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas. He enrolled at Oklahoma State University and played college baseball for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He graduated from Oklahoma State, he took the Law School Admission Test and was accepted into the University of Kansas School of Law.[71] The Brewers selected Perrin in the 27th round of the 2015 MLB draft.[72] During the 2018 season, the Brewers traded Perrin to the Royals for Sal Biasi.[73]

In the 2017-18 offseason, Perrin passed the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Exam, becoming a Registered Investment Adviser.[71]

Ashelee "Ashe" Brenton Russell (born August 28, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Russell attended in Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year for Indiana both his junior and senior seasons.[74][75] As a sophomore, he went 12–1 with a 1.23 earned run average (ERA) with 101 strikeouts and as a junior he was 8–1 with a 0.88 ERA and 74 strikeouts.[76]

Russell was selected by the Kansas City Royals as the 21st overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.[77] Russell signed with the Royals,[78] and was assigned to the Burlington Royals, where he posted a 4.21 ERA in 36.1 innings pitched. Russell only played two games in 2016 for the AZL Royals, compiling a 9.00 ERA in those two games,[79] before deciding to take a leave of absence from the game.[80]

Edward Starlin Salcedo (born July 30, 1990) is a Dominican third baseman in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Salcedo signed with the Atlanta Braves on February 23, 2010, to a minor league contract. His $1.6 million signing bonus is the largest the Braves have ever given to an international prospect. The Braves say they regard the 6-foot-3 Salcedo as a first-round talent who is projected as a strong offensive and defensive player. He was named the 9th best Atlanta Braves prospect according to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.[81] Salcedo's playing career was delayed due to suspicions about his valid age. He was once considered the top international prospect back in 2007 and was offered a $2.7 million signing bonus by the Cleveland Indians but was voided by the United States government due to his age.[82]

On January 13, 2014, he was invited to spring training. The Braves traded Salcedo to the Pirates for Bryton Trepagnier on February 5, 2015.[83] He was traded to the Kansas City Royals in August 2015.[84]

Frank J. Schwindel (born June 29, 1992) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the Kansas City Royals organization.

Schwindel attended Livingston High School in Livingston, New Jersey,[85] and St. John's University and played college baseball for the St. John's Red Storm. The Royals selected Schwindel in the 18th round of the 2013 MLB draft.[86][87] In 2018, Schwindel played for the Omaha Storm Chasers of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League, and appeared in the Triple-A All-Star Game.[88][89]

Samuel Ayres Selman (born November 14, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Selman was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft out of St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. He did not sign and played college baseball at Vanderbilt University for the Commodores from 2010 to 2012.

Selman was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.[90] He signed with the Royals and made his professional debut with the Idaho Falls Chukars, recording a 2.09 earned run average (ERA) and 89 strikeouts in 60 13 innings. Selman played for the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2013. In a game against the Potomac Nationals in August, Selman was removed after eight no-hit innings due to pitch count.[91] In 27 starts for Wilmington, he was 11-9 with a 3.38 ERA. Selman started 2014 with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals and was promoted to the Omaha Storm Chasers in August.[92] In 97 innings between the two teams, he compiled a 4-6 record and 4.27 ERA. In 2015, he pitched for Northwest Arkansas where he went 3-5 with a 5.27 ERA in 41 relief appearances, and in 2016, he played with the AZL Royals, Wilmington, Northwest Arkansas, and Idaho Falls where he posted a combined 8.69 ERA in 29 relief innings pitched. Selman spent 2017 with Northwest Arkansas and Omaha where he was 4-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 67.2 innings pitched in relief.[93]

Gabriel James Speier (born April 12, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals organization.

Speier attended Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, California. The Boston Red Sox selected Speier in the 19th round of the 2013 MLB draft and he signed.[94]

After signing, Speier pitched four innings for the GCL Red Sox in 2013. He returned there in 2014 where he went 3-0 with a 1.55 ERA in nine games (six starts). On December 11, 2014, the Red Sox traded Speier with Yoenis Céspedes and Alex Wilson to the Detroit Tigers for Rick Porcello. He spent the 2015 season with the West Michigan Whitecaps[95] where he compiled a 4-2 record and 2.86 ERA in 33 relief appearances.

On November 20, 2015, the Tigers traded Speier and Ian Krol to the Atlanta Braves for Cameron Maybin.[96] He was then traded again on December 9, 2015; the Braves traded him and Shelby Miller to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Dansby Swanson, Ender Inciarte, and Aaron Blair.[97] He spent 2016 with the Kane County Cougars, AZL Diamondbacks, Visalia Rawhide, and Mobile BayBears, pitching to a combined 4-2 record, 2.62 ERA, and 1.20 WHIP in 39 appearances out of the bullpen. In 2017, he pitched for the Jackson Generals, collecting a 2-6 record and 4.30 ERA in 69 innings pitched.[98]

On June 6, 2018, the Diamondbacks traded Speier and Elvis Luciano to the Kansas City Royals for Jon Jay.[99]

Joshua Tyler Staumont (born December 21, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Staumont attended La Habra High School in La Habra, California and played college baseball at Azusa Pacific University. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft[100] and became one of the highest selected players from Asuzsa Pacific.[101] He made his professional debut that year with the Arizona League Royals and was later promoted to the Idaho Falls Chukars; in 18 combined games between both teams, he went 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA. In 2016, Staumont pitched for both the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Northwest Arkansas Naturals,[102][103] pitching to a combined 4-11 record and 4.23 ERA in 29 total games (26 total starts) between both teams. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League. He spent 2017 with both Northwest Arkansas and the Omaha Storm Chasers where he went 6-12 with a 5.56 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 124.2 total innings pitched between the two clubs.[104]

Chase Anthony Vallot (born August 21, 1996) is an American professional baseball catcher in the Kansas City Royals organization.

Vallot attended St. Thomas More School in Lafayette, Louisiana. As a senior, he hit .545 with 13 home runs and 60 runs batted in.[105] He won numerous awards that year including Louisiana's Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year and Farm Bureau-Louisiana Sports Writers Association Mr. Baseball.[106][107][108] He was also named the Louisville Slugger Player of the Year.[109] During his career he hit .456 with 25 home runs in 65 games.[110]

Vallot was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the 40th overall pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft.[111][112] Vallot signed with the Royals, and was assigned to the Burlington Royals, where he posted a .215 batting average with seven home runs and 27 RBIs. In 2015, he played for the Lexington Legends, posting a .219 batting average with 13 home runs and forty RBIs, and in 2016, he returned to Lexington, where he improved, batting .235 with 15 home runs and 46 RBIs. In 2017, he played for the Wilmington Blue Rocks where he slashed .231/.380/.438 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs in 89 games.[113]

Nolan Michael Watson is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization. The Kansas City Royals drafted him 33rd overall in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. He attended Lawrence North High School.

At the time of the 2015 draft, Watson was 5–1 for Lawrence North, with an 0.63 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings. Prior to the draft, he was ranked 56th by Baseball America's annual rankings of prospects. He committed to play college baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores.[114] The Kansas City Royals selected Watson with the 33rd overall pick in the draft. He signed for $1,825,200[115] and was assigned to the Burlington Royals, and spent the whole season there, going 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 11 starts. Watson spent 2016 with the Lexington Legends where he posted a 3-11 record, a 7.57 ERA, and a 1.75 WHIP in 24 starts. In 2017, he returned to Lexington, appearing in 15 games (13 starts) where he pitched to a 1-10 record with a 6.78 ERA.[116]
