Rogelio Armenteros

Rogelio Armenteros Peña (born June 30, 1994) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.

Armenteros played for Industriales of the Cuban National Series in 2011/2012. In September 2014, he signed with the Houston Astros as an international free agent.^[1]

Armenteros made his professional debut 2015 with the Tri-City ValleyCats and was later promoted to the Quad Cities River Bandits; in 61 total innings pitched between both teams, he posted a 3-2 record and 3.69 ERA. In 2016, he pitched for Quad Cities, Lancaster JetHawks and Corpus Christi Hooks, pitching to a combined 8-6 record and 3.53 ERA in 26 games (22 starts). After the season he pitched in the Arizona Fall League. Armenteros started 2017 with Corpus Christi, and after going 2-3 with a 1.93 ERA in 14 games, was promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies, where he finished the season with a 8-1 record and 2.16 ERA in 24 total games (20 total starts) between both teams.^[2][3]

Brandon Bielak

Brandon Michael Bielak (born April 2, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.

Bielak attended and played baseball at St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey. In 2014, as a senior, he pitched to an 8-1 record with a 0.58 ERA, striking out 87 batters in 60.2 innings pitched.^[4] Undrafted out of high school in the 2014 MLB draft, he enrolled at the University of Notre Dame where he played college baseball for the Fighting Irish. In 2015, as a freshman, he was 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 17 games (14 starts),^[5] in 2016, as a sophomore, he compiled a 3-2 record and a 2.10 ERA in 15 games (four starts),^[6] and in 2017, as a junior, he was 2-6 with a 5.55 ERA in 15 games (14 starts).^[7] After his junior year, he was selected by the Houston Astros in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB draft.^[8]

Bielak signed with Houston and made his professional debut with the GCL Astros. After two scoreless appearances, he was promoted to the Tri-City ValleyCats where he finished the season with a 1-1 record and a 0.92 ERA in eight games (four starts).^[9] He began 2018 with the Buies Creek Astros and was named a Carolina League All-Star;^[10] he was promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks in June.^[11]

Akeem Bostick

Akeem Maurice Bostick (born May 4, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros organization.

Bostick attended West Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. Bostick played for the school's baseball team, and was their ace pitcher. In his senior year, Bostick had a 9-0 win–loss record and a 0.68 earned run average (ERA) with 84 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched.^[12]

Bostick committed to attend Georgia Southern College, where he would play baseball and American football. The Texas Rangers selected Bostick in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft.^[13][14] He signed with the Rangers rather than attend college,^[15] reportedly receiving a $520,620 signing bonus. The Rangers assigned him to the Arizona Rangers of the Rookie-level Arizona League and he spent the whole season there, posting a 4-1 record and 2.83 ERA in 14 games.^[16]

In 2014, Bostick pitched for the Hickory Crawdads of the Class A South Atlantic League where he posted a 5-6 record and 5.17 ERA in 21 games (twenty games started). After the 2014 season, the Rangers traded Bostick to the Houston Astros for Carlos Corporán.^[17] He spent 2015 with both the Quad Cities River Bandits and the Lancaster JetHawks, posting a combined 9-5 record and 4.15 ERA in 21 total games between the two teams, and 2016 with the Tri-City ValleyCats and Lancaster, where he went 6-4 with a 4.74 ERA in 16 total games. In 2017, he pitched for the Buies Creek Astros and the Corpus Christi Hooks, pitching to a combined 8-7 record and 4.06 ERA in 22 games (16 starts) between both teams.^[18]

His cousin, Brandon Bostick, plays in the National Football League.^[19]

Drew Ferguson

Andrew Thomas Ferguson (born August 3, 1992) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the Houston Astros organization.

Ferguson attended the Knoxville Catholic High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and played college baseball at Belmont University as a walk-on.^[20] He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 19th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.^[21]

Ferguson spent his first professional season with the Tri-City ValleyCats and Quad Cities River Bandits, compiling a combined .297 batting average with four home runs and 27 RBIs in 61 games. He played for the Lancaster JetHawks and Corpus Christi Hooks in 2016, slashing .315/.408/.542 with 17 home runs and 76 RBIs in 105 games, Corpus Christi and Fresno Grizzlies in 2017 where he posted a combined .275 batting average with nine home runs and 41 RBIS in 13 games,^[22] and started 2018 with Fresno.^[23]

Corbin Martin

Corbin Montgomery Martin (born December 28, 1995) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.

Martin attended Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas and played college baseball at Texas A&M University.^[24] He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.^[25]

Martin pitched in his first professional season with the Gulf Coast Astros and Tri-City ValleyCats.^[26] In 32.2 innings pitched between both teams he was 0-1 with a 2.20 ERA.^[27] He started 2018 with the Buies Creek Astros and was promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks during the season.^[28]

Brendan McCurry

Brendan Scott McCurry (born January 7, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.

McCurry played college baseball at Howard College and Oklahoma State University. McCurry was an infielder at Howard before transitioning into a pitcher at Oklahoma State.^[29] At Oklahoma State he set a school record with 27 career saves.^[30]

McCurry was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 22nd round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. During his first professional season, he spent time with the Arizona League Athletics, Beloit Snappers and Stockton Ports, posting a combined 2-0 record with a 0.31 ERA in 28.2 innings between the three teams. McCurry spent 2015 with both the Stockton Ports and the Midland RockHounds where he posted a 1-3 record with a 1.86 ERA.^[31][32]

On November 25, 2015, McCurry was traded from the Athletics to the Houston Astros for Jed Lowrie. He began 2016 with the Corpus Christi Hooks before being promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies. He finished 2016 with a 3-5 record with a 5.07 ERA.^[33] On December 22, 2016, McCurry was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for methamphetamine.^[34] After his suspension, he returned to Fresno, going 4-2 with a 4.43 ERA in 35 games.^[35]

Trent Thornton

Trent Edward Thornton (born September 30, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Houston Astros organization.

After graduating from Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte, North Carolina,^[36] Thornton played college baseball at the University of North Carolina for the North Carolina Tar Heels. As a freshman he was 12-1 with a 1.37 ERA in 29 games,^[37] as a sophomore he was 7-4 with a 2.73 ERA in 16 games, including 14 starts,^[38] and as a junior, he was 3-7 with a 5.08 ERA in 28 appearances (four of which were starts).^[39] After his junior year, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB draft^[40] and he signed.

Thornton made his professional debut that season with the Tri-City Valley Cats and spent the whole season there, going 4-0 with a 3.27 ERA in 15 games (12 starts). In 2016, he played for the Lancaster JetHawks and the Corpus Christi Hooks, compiling a combined 10-5 record with a 3.52 ERA in 24 games (21 starts), and in 2017, he pitched for Corpus Christi and the Fresno Grizzlies, posting a 9-6 record and a 5.21 ERA in 25 games (23 starts) between the two clubs.^[41] He began 2018 with Fresno. He was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 11-17 after pitching 7.2 scoreless innings in which he allowed only one hit (given up with two outs in the eighth inning) to go along with two walks.^[42]
