The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees are an announced junior ice hockey team in the USA Central Hockey League (USACHL), to be based in Hidalgo, Texas, and play home games at State Farm Arena. The team was founded in 2018 and shares its name with two other defunct ice hockey teams in Hidalgo.
History
In 2013, after the original Killer Bees team ceased operations the previous year, the ownership of the NAHL's Wenatchee Wild relocated to Hidalgo and assumed the Killer Bees identity. However, the new team also ceased operations in 2015 and the franchise was relocated to Aston, Pennsylvania, to become the Aston Rebels. On March 21, 2018, the new USA Central Hockey League (USACHL) announced another Killer Bees team would come to State Farm Arena for the league's inaugural 2018–19 season.[1] On August 6, the USACHL announced John Ollson as the new team's head coach and director of player personnel.[2]
