Matilda Cuomo

Matilda Cuomo is the widow of the Mario Cuomo, former Governor of New York. She was inducted to the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2017.[1]

Personal life

Matilda Raffa Cuomo met her husband Mario Cuomo in 1951[2] in the cafeteria at St. John's in Queens[3] and was with him for 60 years until his death in 2015.[4] The couple had five children together,[5] one of whom is Andrew Cuomo, New York’s 56th governor.[6]

Notable achievements

Cuomo founded Mentoring USA, which works to create mentor relationships for youth ages 7-21.[7] Between 1983 and 1995 she was First Lady of New York State. She chaired the New York State Decade of the Child initiative.

Awards and recognition

Cuomo was the recipient of the first Liberty Partnerships Program Lifetime Achievement Award for her work.[8]
