CF Markville, also known as Markville Shopping Centre in the Cadillac Fairview chain of malls, is a shopping mall of over 160 stores in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is located at the intersection of Highway 7 East and McCowan Road. Its anchors are Hudson's Bay, Winners/HomeSense, Walmart Supercentre, Sporting Life, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH, Uniqlo, Best Buy, and a Toys R Us/Babies R Us combo store.

History

The shopping centre was developed by JDS Development and opened in 1982 and is owned by Cadillac Fairview. The mall was named for its proximity to the historical villages of Markham and Unionville (now both incorporated in the city of Markham). It has a gross leasable area of 1,017,199 square feet (94,500.9 m2).[1] It was the largest shopping mall in York Region until 2004 when Vaughan Mills opened. The mall has undergone renovations since 1982 with the latest by EllisDon in 2011.[2]

Markville was renovated by EllisDon for $110 million from 2011-2013. The renovation included the installation of 180,000 square feet (17,000 m2) of porcelain tile flooring, and 12,000 linear feet of glass handrails. Over 250,000 square feet (23,000 m2) of commercial space was to be renovated, which would add many brands new to Canada or the Greater Toronto Area. A new food court that would replace the old one was also in the renovation plans, it opened on 23 August 2012 as "Express Eatery" at entrance 7. The former food court which was located next to Best Buy has been remodeled into shop space. This was the second renovation done at the centre since the 1991 expansion. The renovation was completed in two years, and was finished in the fall of 2013.[3] During this transitional period, the mall's store count was reduced to 160. Sears closed on February 28, 2015 and became Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH in early 2018, on the upper level, as the lower level still remains vacant. Some of the mall's popular stores are Muji, Miniso, Uniqlo, Banana Republic, Coach, Michael Kors, H&M, LOFT, Old Navy, Bluenotes, Gap and La Vie En Rose.

Le Château closed in 2016, allowing Japanese retailer Muji to open a store in 2017.

Recently, the mall shifted its focus to offering a more luxurious shopping experience in the future by opening Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH. There are also rumours of plans to open a Nordstrom Rack the lower level of the former Sears.

Forever 21 closed in Spring 2018 to make way for Japanese retailer Uniqlo to open in its Canadian expansion, one of the four new locations in Canada.[4] This marks the largest closure at the mall since Sears removal in 2015. The store was liquidated and cleared out in a massive sale that caused long lineups outside the store, allowing a limited number of people to shop. The store remained visible while vacant until an opaque border was put up, with the Uniqlo logo. The location opened on October 12, 2018.

The closure of Hot Topic saw the opening of Miniso in summer 2018, since becoming a popular store in the mall.

Despite the closure of it's United States operations, Toys R Us continues to operate in Canada as normal.
