Facts and figures
- As of the 70th Primetime Emmys in 2018, at least one African American has won in every acting category except Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
- Harry Belafonte and Sammy Davis Jr. were both nominated and therefore both were the first black nominees in 1956.
- Ethel Waters became the first dramatic performance nominee (male or female) in 1962, and was the first black female nominee.
- Harry Belafonte became the first winner (male or female) in 1960.
