Kingdom (Hangul: 킹덤; RR: Kingdeom), is a 2018 South Korean television series written by Kim Eun-hee and directed by Kim Seong-hun.[4][5] It will be Netflix's second Korean original series,[lower-alpha 1] and is to premiere in December 2018.[6][7] The series will have two seasons, with the second season set to go into production in February, 2019.[3]

Synopsis

Set in Korea’s medieval Joseon period, it tells the story of a crown prince who is sent on a suicide mission to investigate a mysterious plague that’s spreading across his country. The truth threatens the kingdom, when he discovers that it is an atrocious epidemic in the form of zombies.[6][8]

Cast

Production

  • The series will be entirely pre-produced before its premiere.
  • Actor Song Joong-ki was courted for the lead role but declined.[6][15]
  • A crew member of the art team died on January 16, 2018, due to overwork.[16]
  • The series overspent the budget, with each episode costing more than $1.78 million.[3]
