The story will follow an epic journey by three Gelfling to light the fires of rebellion and save their world, after they discover the secret behind the Skeksis’ power.[2]

At New York Comic Con in 2018, director Louis Leterrier insisted that the series would depend on puppetry and not CGI, except for the use of green screens to remove puppeteers.[3]

The series began filming in the United Kingdom in November 2017 with Louis Leterrier serving as director.[4][5] The prequel will be written by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, and Javier Grillo-Marxuach.[1]
