The station has services running direct to Paddington and Heathrow Terminal 5 provided by Heathrow Express, normally running every 15 minutes, and by Heathrow Connect, normally running half-hourly and stopping at most intermediate stations. It is also serviced by the Heathrow Terminal 4 shuttle, which runs between here and Heathrow Terminal 4 approximately every 15 mins.
The station was opened on 23rd June 1998 upon the completion of the Heathrow Express Rail Link linking Heathrow Airport with direct non-stop services to Central London. In contrast to the stations Terminals 4 and 5, the platforms at Heathrow Central do not lie adjacent to the London Underground Piccadilly line platforms at Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 station. Instead they lie perpendicular, and at a far deeper level. The reasoning behind this is because the Heathrow Express line was tunelled into Heathrow from the north, whereas the Piccadilly line approaches from the east. Access to the station is reached via an underground pedestrian walkway which links Terminal 3 to the Central Bus Station and the Piccadilly line’s Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3 station.
Since May 2018, the station has been served by TfL Rail, part of the new Crossrail project. Services initially run as far as London Paddington calling at all intermediate stations, replacing the Heathrow Connect service. In December 2018, the service will be rebranded the Elizabeth Line, and in December 2019 the full route opens, running through Central London to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.
Connections
London Buses routes 105, 111, 140, 285, A10, U3, express routes 724 and X26 and night route N9 serve the station from the Central Bus Station, which is a short walk via underground walkways.
