CASIC owns seven academies, two scientific research and development bases, six public listed companies, and over 620 other companies and institutes scattered nationwide, with more than 145,987 employees.[2]

Business

CASIC is the biggest missile weapon system developing and manufacturing enterprise in China. It possesses a complete capability for developing, researching and manufacturing air defense missile systems, cruise missile systems, solid propellant rockets, space technological products and other technologies with products covering various fields of land, sea, air, and electromagnetic spectrum. CASIC has successively provided dozens of advanced missile equipment systems for the various nations, and it also has made outstanding contributions to Chinese manned space flight, lunar exploration and other key Chinese national projects.[2] In 2017 (fiscal year), the total assets of CASIC was US$ 44.27 billion , Revenue was US$ 34.07 billion, and profit was US$1.60 billion.[3]

Commercial Aerospace

CASIC has been actively promoting the development of commercial aerospace industry. It takes the lead in launching hundred-of-billion-yuan commercial aerospace project plans in China, and continuously promotes the implementation of major commercial aerospace projects: Feiyun Project, Kuaiyun Project, Xingyun Project, Hongyun Project, Tengyun Project and T-Flight (supersonic train system) Project. The first commercial launching of KZ-1A rocket has been successfully completed in the way of “launching three satellites on one rocket”, lasting for only over eight months from contract signing to launching. “Tiankun-1” satellite has been successfully launched expanding the spectrum of China’s small low orbit satellites. CASIC officially starts the construction of the Wuhan National Space Industry Base for commercial aerospace, and initiates to set up the Yangtze River Aerospace Industry Fund. Adhering to its positioning in the commercial aerospace industry to become “the overall academy, general department and assembly plant in the society”, CASIC aims to establish cooperation with wider social resources in order to forge a new business format of China’s commercial aerospace.

Exchange & Cooperation

September 5, 2013, the G20 summit was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin witnessed the

signing of strategic cooperation agreement between CASIC (Gao Hongwei: chairman of CASIC) and Rostec. The signing of strategic

cooperation agreement marks a brand new page in pragmatic cooperation in civilian high-tech field between CASIC and Rostec.

On July 5, 2017, witnessed by President Xi Jinping and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, Gao Hongwei, the Chairman of China Aerospace Science & Industry Co., Ltd. (CASIC) and Joe Kaeser, the President & CEO of Siemens AG (Siemens) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the fields of industrial Internet and intelligent manufacturing in Berlin. They will make joint efforts to establish a future-oriented industrial ecosystem based on the industrial cloud platform. In recent years, CASIC made every effort to establish an industrial Internet cloud platform --INDICS that supports the intelligent transformation, collaborative manufacturing and cloud manufacturing and was devoted to “information exchange, resource sharing, capability coordination, openness, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation” in respect of industrial enterprises. Siemens was devoted to electrification, automation, digitization, and creating an open IoT operating system based on the cloud platform. On May 30, 2016, CASIC and Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding. Therefore, they made joint efforts to establish a working team and yielded fruitful results, laying a solid foundation for deepening cooperation between the two parties and improving cooperation levels. Based on the opportunities for cooperation brought about by “Made in China 2025” and “German Industry 4.0”, the strategic cooperation between the two parties is promising. Based on the strategic cooperation agreement, they will establish strategic partnerships in the fields of industrial Internet and intelligent manufacturing to give full play to their advantages, establish a future-oriented industrial ecosystem and cooperate in market exploitation to provide customers with values for industrial transformation and upgrading.
