Charkha is a village in Dhari Taluka of Amreli district on Saurashtra peninsula in Gujarat, western India. It was formerly minor princely state.
History
During it was a petty state in Sorath prant, which during the colonial British raj subordinate to the Lakhapadar thana. It was ruled by Kathi chieftains of Vala tribe.[1][2]
The population according to the census of 1872 was 1613 and according to that of 1881 1414 souls.[1] In 1901 it comprised Charkha and a second village, with a combined population of 1,519, yielding 27,000 Rupees state revenue (1903-4, nearly all from land), paying 541 Rupees tribute, to the Gaikwar Baroda State and Junagadh State.[2]
