Nantong Metro (Chinese: 南通地铁; pinyin: nán tōng dì tiě), officially Nantong Rail Transit, is a rail rapid transit system under construction in Nantong, Jiangsu, People's Republic of China. In August 2014, China's State Council approved Nantong Metro's development plan.

Nantong Metro will consist of 4 subway lines with a total length of 170.8 kilometres (106.1 mi) and several commuter railway lines totaling 153.2 kilometres (95.2 mi).

History

In October 2011, the third meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress of Nantong City heard the report of the municipal government on urban rail rapid transit construction planning, and launched the "Nantong Urban Rail Transit Planning Work" plan. In April 2012, the Nantong Metro plan was released and circulated online.

On August 19, 2014, Nantong's urban rail rapid transit construction plan was approved by the State Council, becoming the sixth in Jiangsu and the 37th city overall approved for rail rapid transit.[1]

Metro Line 1's construction began on December 18, 2017, and the construction period will take 5 years.[2][3] Line 1 begins at Pingchao Station (平潮站) and ends at Zhenxing Road Station (振兴路站), and will consist of 25 stations.
