Amritha Express (Malayalam : അമൃതാ എക്സ്പ്രസ്സ്, Tamil: அமிர்தா தொடர்வண்டி) is an overnight express train operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways between Trivandrum Central railway station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and Madurai Junction railway station in Madurai, Tamil nadu. It was introduced in January 2001 by the Railway Minister O. Rajagopal, From Thiruvananthapuram Central to Palakkad Town This train is named after Mata Amritanandamayi, a well known spiritual leader.
Train number 16343 runs from south to north, departing Trivandrum Central at 22:30 (10:30 p.m.) and reaches Madurai Junction at 13:10 (01:10 p.m.) On the return journey, train number 16344 starts at 15:45 (03:45 p.m.) from Madurai Junction and reaches Trivandrum Central railway station at 06:25 (6:25 a.m.).
The train has general Second Class sitting coaches, second class sleeper coaches, and an air-conditioned two-tier coach.
From November 2015, it had been operated as a special express between Palakkad Town and Pollachi.At 1 November 2017, Amritha Express was extended to Madurai with new stops at Pollachi, Palani and Dindigul.
Starting from 16 November 2011, at Shoranur Junction, 8 coaches are merged with Rajya Rani Express.
