17 Persei is a class K5+III[3] (orange giant) star in the constellation Perseus. Its apparent magnitude is 4.53[2] and it is approximately 470 light years away based on parallax.[1]

It is a suspected variable, with an amplitude of 0.012 magnitude and period 4.4 days.[4][10]
