Etymology

From Ancient Greek ἐκτελῶ (ektelô, to complete, to bring to an end), from ἐκ (ek, from, out of) + τέλος (télos, completion, end). Sense 2 is a semantic loan from French exécuter. Sense 3 developed in Byzantine Greek.
