History

Guildford High Street, including the Guildhall, circa 1828.

The guildhall, which was initially used as a courtroom, was built around 1550.[1] The Council Chamber was added in 1683.[1] The building facade was also constructed in 1683 and features an iconic projected clock.[1] The clock was presented to the Council by a London clockmaker, John Aylward, in return for being allowed to trade in the borough.[2]

Present
