Church Street, Bangalore

Church Street is one of the busiest streets in Central Business District, Bangalore, India.[1] It is a 750-metre stretch[2] from Brigade Road to St. Mark's Road, which runs parallel to M G Road. A "tourist hotspot",[3] the street is one of the major revenue-generating areas[1] and popular New Year's Eve celebration centres in the city.[4] The street is so called as it leads directly to the St. Mark's Cathedral.[5]

In December 2014, an IED blast on Church Street caused one death and injuries to four others. The attack was suspected to have been carried out by Indian Mujahideen.[6]

In 2017, redevelopment work began on Church Street at a cost of 9 crore, which made it the first street in the city to be paved from granite cobblestones.[7] The cobblestones were laid in a Kasuti pattern to reflect Karnataka's cultural heritage.[8] Shortly after completion, there were reports of cobblestones coming apart on certain sections of the road.[9]
