1974–75 Paris Saint-Germain F.C. season
The 1974–75 season was Paris Saint-Germain Football Club's 5th season in existence and 2nd season in Division 1, the top tier of French football. The club also competed in the Coupe de France.[1] PSG played its home matches mainly at Parc des Princes in Paris, but once at Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes as well, registering an average attendance of 17,167 spectators per match.[1][2] Additionally, the Parisians played two French Cup home games at Stade de Paris in Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine and at Stade Marcel Picot in Tomblaine.[1] The club was presided by Daniel Hechter, and the team was managed by Just Fontaine.[1][3] For the second season running, French midfielder Jean-Pierre Dogliani was the team captain.[4]

Paris Saint-Germain returned to Division 1 in 1974, ironically the same year that Paris FC (PFC) were relegated. Since then, PSG have always played in the top flight.[5] They immediately moved into the Parc des Princes, which up until that point had been the home stadium of PFC.[6][7] Before that, PSG had been playing at several grounds including the Stade Municipal Georges Lefèvre, the Stade Jean-Bouin, the Stade Bauer, and even the Parc des Princes a few times during the 1973–74 season despite the reluctance of PFC.[8][9] Though failing to challenge for the domestic title in the 1970s, the club slowly began attracting several stars.[6][10] The first of them was Mustapha Dahleb, who signed from Sedan for 1.3m francs in 1974, a then French transfer record.[10]

Tournoi de Paris
This season marked the 1st time Paris Saint-Germain hosted the Tournoi de Paris as well as the competition's 12th edition overall. Regarded as French football's most prestigious friendly tournament, it was initially held by Racing Paris from 1957 to 1966.[16][17] Following Paris FC's failed attempt in 1973, Daniel Hechter successfully relaunched the competition in 1975 with PSG as hosts. Reinforced with Dutch legend Johan Cruyff and Serbian star Dragan Džajić for the occasion, PSG narrowly lost to Valencia in the final in front of a sold-out Parc des Princes.[16][18]
