"Will Gets a Girlfriend" is the fourth episode of the first series of The Inbetweeners. It first aired on 15 May 2008 on E4.

Plot

Will, Simon, Jay, and Neil have found themselves at a party, albeit one that turns out to be boring and full of people that are fairly similar to them in terms of social status. However, Wendy, the party's host, insists Charlotte Hinchcliffe (Emily Atack) will soon arrive. The gang are thrilled, as Charlotte is known for her attractive physique, high social status, and seemingly promiscuous ways, which are initially exaggerated by Jay, who claims she had oral sex with the school's rugby team despite their school not even having one. Upon her arrival, Will unintentionally opens a bottle of champagne that was reserved for Charlotte, but she kindly invites him to share it with her. They drink and chat together, starting on good terms; Neil and Jay watch in jealousy, whilst Simon watches in amazement, believing this could be a new start for all of them. Jay then attempts to lure Charlotte away but his appalling impression of The Crazy Frog only serves to annoy her and enjoy Will's company further; she then takes Will upstairs to an empty bedroom where they begin kissing, but the experience is short-lived as Charlotte's ex-boyfriend (and Will's biggest antagonist), Mark Donovan, interrupts and but fails to win an irritated Charlotte back. Mark leaves, but demands Will treat Charlotte with respect as she is more than just the promiscuous girl everyone sees her as, though immediately warns him not to tell anyone he said that.

The next day Will bumps into Charlotte at school and, when learning she has already had eleven lovers, lies about his own sex life and claims he has had sex with five girls so far, losing his virginity back at the age of thirteen. She then suggests they meet up again to have sex themselves, which Will later brags to his friends over, only to be told by Simon that Charlotte is obviously just using him to spite Mark following their relationship issues, causing Will to insult Simon and storm off. When Will and Charlotte meet up at her house to have sex later that week, his inexperience becomes evident, and he admits he was lying the entire time and is still a virgin. Charlotte asks Will not to tell his friends about them trying to have sex, though he sadly reveals he may no longer have any. Charlotte ignores this and merely dismisses him from the house.

Will continues to believe Charlotte is his girlfriend even after the incident and, whilst watching the school's charity Blind Date show, tells the socially inept Big John about their relationship. Neil, being part of the show in order to win a date with an attractive girl, instead wins an unwanted date with Susie, a nerdy, much younger girl. Will is then shocked when the next contestant on the show is in fact Charlotte herself, claiming to be taking part to find a man "who really knows what he's doing". Humiliated and depressed by his rejection, Will rushes off in tears, whilst an initially amused Simon and Jay watch on sadly. Will cries at home whilst comforted by his mother, now fearing he has nothing after falling out with his friends over a girl who has now dumped him, however in the midst of it all, Simon and an uncharacteristically sympathetic Jay arrive at Will's door to comfort him. They immediately reconcile and agree to spy on Neil during his awkward date with Susie, who is revealed to be as young as twelve and so the date consists of them going to a fast food restaurant whilst being supervised by her mother.

During the episode, Jay is repeatedly teased by the rest of the boys for having a male friend outside of the group, who was introduced when they say goodbye to one another at Wendy's party, sharing a two thumbs up gesture when doing so. Eventually losing his temper, Jay finds the man's car and jumps repeatedly on the bonnet, screaming that he is not his friend when the man comes out to ask Jay what is going on, whilst Neil and Simon look on in shock. When the boys all reconcile at the end, Jay claims that he had to pay the man £300 to fix the car and to stop him calling the police.
