The town is growing due to the hundreds of NRIs and their remittance plays a major role in local trade and business. Many of the old buildings here are being replaced by modern complexes.

Infrastructure

Wandoor Siva Temple is the oldest worship place in wandoor. The lord Siva of this temple is known as thriu wandoor appan, from which the name wandoor derived. Wandoor Valiya Jamaeth Palli, the oldest mosque in the area, is famous as one of the only mosques, that still uses Nakara, a drum, to announce the call for prayer, instead of modern sound speakers. Karunalaya Hospital, built in 1958 by the American missionary Henry Otten is located in Wandoor.

The Otten English School has over 700 students and now has students graduating with high-school equivalent degrees.

A new hospital named Noor Institute of Medical Specialties, NIMS with modern facilities have established in Wandoor recently with the participation of NRIs and some prominent personalities of Wandoor.

The nearest railway station is at Vaniyambalam three km from Wandoor town. One of the major state highway SH-73 is passing through Wandoor town. It connects Nilambur-Perinthalmanna-Valanchery towns of malappuram district. And also one of the major road Manjeri-Wandoor-Kalikavu road is also passing through Wandoor town.

Culture

Wandoor village is a predominantly Muslim and Hindus populated area. So the culture of the locality is based upon Hindus and Muslim traditions. Duff Muttu, Kolkali and Aravanamuttu are common folk arts of this locality. There are many libraries attached to mosques giving a rich source of Islamic studies. Most of the books are written in Arabi-Malayalam which is a version of the Malayalam language written in Arabic script. People gather in mosques for the evening prayer and continue to sit there after the prayers discussing social and cultural issues. Business and family issues are also sorted out during these evening meetings. The Hindu minority of this area keeps their rich traditions by celebrating various festivals in their temples. Hindu rituals are done here with a regular devotion like other parts of Kerala.[1]

The nearest airport is at Kozhikode. The nearest major railway station is at Feroke.
