Thari Mirwah (Sindhi: ٺري ميرواهه) or Thari (Sindhi: ٺري) is the capital city of Mirwah Subdivision (Mirwah taluka) in Khairpur District, Sindh, Pakistan.[2]

Climate

Thari Mirwah has a desert climate. The average annual temperature is 26.9 °C. Precipitation averages 99 mm per year. The hottest months months are April, May, June, July, and August. The driest month is October. Most of the precipitation falls in July. The warmest month is June with an averaging temperature of 35°C. January is the coldest month, averaging 15.0 °C. (these figures are for the climate of whole District Khairpur).

Society, people and environment

The taluka Thari Mirwah is a well known subdivision of District Khairpur comprising multiple communities and tribes. The majority of the residents are Muslim, but there are also Hindus. The language most commonly spoken is Sindhi.

The literacy rate is good. There is little danger to visitors, many of whom come to pay tribute and affection to the religious and sufi saints such as Ghulam Hyder Godriyo, Chattan Shah, Jamal Shah, Folad Fakir, Dawood Ghaffari, Noor Shah.

    • The trade and business in the Thari Mirwah is in the hands of Hindu community. They have been living here for the long time many Hindu families are settled here since before the partition(Indo-Pak 1947).
    • The Jogi next business clan holding trade in the city.They are owners of the most commercial properties, They do the business of different things.They are the owners/share holders of Petroleum stations located in the city also deal with transportation. They are settled in city and south western parts of taluka.
    • Banbhan and Kubar tribes are almost settled in south of Thari Mirwah taluka HQ.They handle the transport and have a famous Van service Al-Murtaza,Banbhan Coach (Thari Mirwah-Karachi).
    • Awan,Bhatti,Pathan,Janwri tribes are also doing their part in the business of city.
    • Shar community forms the majority of population in the taluka as compared to other tribes and communities (in number) they are settled in and outside the city.

Economy/Source of Income

The major source of income for the majority population is agriculture.Mirwah river is the source of water for fulfilling agricultural needs. same river splits into small branches and channels which carries water to the far away areas. The famous agricultural products are wheat,cotton,sugarcane,rice and sorghum.

Law Enforcement /Crimes/Disputes situation

Although the crime rate in Thari Mirwah is very low, incidents do happen.

  • The cases of robbery,kidnapping and land dispute have been reported many times whereas in past times police encounters have been made to tackle the robbery,kidnapping like cases.
  • In March 2015, Khairpur Police took action; Thari Mirwah SP Sajid Khokhar and Khairpur city SP Masood Bangash jointly led a large contingent of police personnel in raiding and cordoning off the area. In this raid, police killed the notorious criminal Irshad Ali Gopang in an encounter at Kumb-Jaskani link road near Kumb town in Khairpur district.[2]
  • A lawyer was kidnapped at Malik Chaudagi in September 2014.[3]
  • A local leader, Mir Nadeem Talpur, went missing on 1 October 2013.[4]
  • It is overall peaceful but in past times some tribal conflicts have been observed between the Shar & Jogi tribes in the year 2006 the conflict arose over women from Jogi tribe(some say were kidnapped some sources say left their house on their own wish and recovered later) which spread fear among other people of Thari Mirwah.
  • Again on the day May 11,2013,on the general elections night the conflict between both tribes which sparked anxiety between 2 clans(Shar-Jogi).City remained shutter down and sustained strain for nearly two consecutive weeks.The problem again was missing of girl from Jogi Tribe (later recovered). The situation was handled by Pakistan Rangers & Sindh Police nothing unwanted was let to be happen in the city or adjoining areas .

Roads and infrastructure

As in other parts of Sindh, the condition of roads in Thari Mirwah is horrendous. However, the rehabilitation of the Thari-Setharja road is underway, and some construction has already been completed. On the eastern side of Thari is a desert known as Nara desert. A single road runs from Dhedano village to the Sawan gas field(Taluka Nara Distt Khairpur), where it turns into the gas company's blacktop highroad.[3]

The newly constructed Mehran Highway is the only highway to connect Nawabshah District to Khairpur. The highway passes through the jurisdictions of Thari Mirwah, Faiz Ganj, Bandhi, and Daur. Construction lasted seven years.[4] Many accidents have occurred on the completed highway, which is being used by illegal buses and coaches going to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata.[5][6][7][8]

On 24 August 2014, a coach coming from Punjab collided at Kot lalu with a van from Thari city which was traveling from Karachi to Thari Mirwah; 10 passengers were killed and 11 injured. All were natives of Thari Mirwah.[9]

Education

Government Degree College

There are governmental as well as private educational institutions in Thari. Languages of instruction include Sindhi and English. Government Boys Model High School is the oldest high school. Students are required to sit the Matric Exams and Higher Secondary Examination. After successful results, they receive Secondary School Certificates, or Higher Secondary School Certificates including college side regular or private degree examinations, as well as Technical School Certificates. After completing secondary education, students enrol in college. Students from Thari Mirwah also seek admission to professional graduation colleges, universities in Sindh and other institutions, including universities in Pakistan and elsewhere abroad, particularly China.

Health

Thari Mirwah has Taluka hospital Rural Health Centre, Marie Stopes Society (MSS) clinic and other private clinics. The rural health centre does not meet the emergency rapid response capability; that needs to be upgraded by the Sindh government. Due to lack of education and religious beliefs about 30 children of the vicinity died from measles who were later brought for treatment at Taluka hospital Thari. There are private hospitals/clinics in which notable doctors like Dr Muhammad Khan Shar,Dr Hussan Bano Shar,Dr Qurban Sahito,Dr Aneela Dasti,Dr Nasrullah Laghari,Dr Mumtaz Shar,Dr Shah,Dr Awan,Dr Anwar Bhatti,Dr Mattal Jogi,Dr Saleemullah Channa and Dr Muhammad Ali Shar are serving for the mass benefit also because of less facilities in the government hospital which still has not been designated as Taluka Head Quarter Hospital and it is still Rural Health Center despite Thari Mirwah having a long time of being Taluka HQ . Also there is a Unani Dawakhana run by Hakeem Faiz Muhammad Shar. [12]

Shar (mainly settled in city,east, northeast,north and west of tehsil HQ), Jogi (city,majority west, south-west),Banbhan(city,south),Veesar(east and west), Laghari(north),Soomro,Ansari(south),Mandan(south), Jatoi,Shah,Khaskheli,Gopang,Dasti(east and west),Abbasi,Panhyar,Bozdar(north),Rajpar,Sodhro,Arain,Samor,Lashari, Awan(city),Channa(west),Kubar(city,south),Islami,Sheikh,Manganhar,Talpur(north),Sial,Solangi, Sahito,Bhatti(city),Burdi,Jalalani,Malak(west),Phull(west),Rind(north and some west),Pirzada,Shahani, Chachar ,Hindu community(city) and others.

Transport

In thari mirwah, there is a full time transport for different cities like islamabad And karachi Now, famous service for karachi known as "Al-Murtaza Air Condition Van Service" started 10 years ago and still currently working with good maintenance. This transport service owned by old transporter Ghulam Murtaza Kubar. In city, there is also several transport services like " Al-Fuqra" , " Bhanbhan Coach " and many others.

Transport for Students

From Thari Mirwah city there is transport facility for students getting education in the Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur and MUET SZAB Campus Khairpur. The official point buses of relative institutes are operatioal from here as per transport schedule of these educational institutes on daily bases else the academic holidays.
