Sharjah Indian School is a senior secondary school, owned and managed by Indian Association Sharjah, located in the UAE. Established in 1979 with 280 pupils and 13 teachers. Today after 35 years, the school has a strength of 10000 students and 300 teachers
History
Sharjah Indian School was established under Indian Association Sharjah, both founded by Mr V Damodar in 1979. The School started on 3rd September 1979 with 346 pupils from Nursery to 5th Standard and 13 teachers. It was expanded the very next year to 8th Standard and CBSE approval was obtained. Sharjah Indian School was the first of its kind and supported education of children of especially the middle class expatriates. The institution has been growing to become the largest School of its type outside India.
Academics
The school is approved and licensed by the private Education Department of the Ministry of Education, UAE and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India. The curriculum and programme of work is in accordance with the requirements of the Central Board of Secondary Education New Delhi, India.
The medium of Instruction in the school is English, with Hindi as a compulsory second language. Arabic is taught as per the rules laid down by the UAE Ministry of Education.
Management
The school is owned and managed by the Indian Association Sharjah. The administration of the school is carried out by the Managing Committee, which is elected by the members of the Indian Association Sharjah. The tenure of the committee is one year.
Facilities
The school houses Computer, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry and Psychology Labs. In 2014, the school decided to build a new complex for accommodating more students and the stone foundation was laid. In 2016, it was inaugurated on December. The whole of Boys wing moved to the new school on 19th February 2018. Now the school will function as two different schools and will function separate as a Boys Branch school and a Girls Branch school.
