San Francisco Board of Supervisors election, 2018

The 2018 San Francisco Board of Supervisors elections will choose members for five of the eleven seats of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. One of the seats elections was a special election held on June 5, while the other four will be decided on the November 6, the day of the general election. Two incumbents were termed out of office and three ran for reelection. Municipal elections in California are officially non-partisan, though most candidates in San Francisco do receive funding and support from various political parties. The election will be held using ranked-choice voting.

On June 5, Rafael Mandelman defeated incumbent Jeff Sheehy in District 8.

Districts

District 2

Incumbent Supervisor Mark Farrell was ineligible to run for reelection due to term limits. On January 23, 2018, he was appointed interim mayor, succeeding London Breed, who had been acting mayor since the death of Ed Lee.[1] Farrell appointed Catherine Stefani as his successor, and she announced she would run for a full term in the election.[2]

Kat Anderson, a labor attorney; Schuyler Hudak, a startup founder; and Nick Josefowitz, the San Francisco BART Board Director, are candidates.[3] Former Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier is considered a potential candidate,[4] but a ballot proposition on the June 2018 ballot that would limit Supervisors to two terms in their lifetime, rather than the present two consecutive term limit, would prevent Alioto-Pier from running for a third term.[5]

District 4

Incumbent Supervisor Katy Tang is eligible to run for reelection, but she has announced that she will not run. Candidates running to succeed her include Gordon Mar, Li Miao Lovett, Jessica Ho, Lou Ann Bassan, Arthur Tom, and Trevor McNeil. Tang is supporting Ho, who works for Tang as a legislative aide.[6][7]

District 6

Incumbent Supervisor Jane Kim is ineligible to run for reelection due to term limits. Matt Haney, Christine Johnson, Sonja Trauss and Jason Jones are running to succeed her.[8]

District 8

Incumbent Supervisor Jeff Sheehy was eligible to run for reelction in the June 5, 2018 special election. He ran for reelection against Rafael Mandelman and Lawrence "Stark" Dagesse.[9] Mandelman won the seat, with 60% of the vote, while Sheehy received 38%.[10] Mandelman was sworn in on July 11.[11] Mandelman and Dagasse are running again in the November election, but Sheehy is not.[6]

District 10

Incumbent Supervisor Malia Cohen is ineligible to run for reelection due to term limits. Candidates running to succeed her include President of the San Francisco Board of Education Shamann Walton, Theo Ellington, and Tony Kelly.[12][13]
