San Diego primary election, 2012

The June 2012 San Diego primary elections were on June 5, 2012, in San Diego, California. A two-round system was used for the election, starting with a primary in June followed by a November runoff election between the top-two candidates if no candidate received a majority of the votes in the first round.

The elections included a mayoral race, five seats to the San Diego City Council, and two San Diego City ballot propositions.

City Council

In the June primary, Todd Gloria (District 3) won re-election unopposed. Mark Kersey (District 5), Scott Sherman (District 7), and Marti Emerald (District 9) secured the majority of votes to prevent a runoff. Incumbent Sherri Lightner received fewer votes than Ray Ellis for the District 1 seat, resulting in a November runoff election.
