Okaibe

Okaibe is a coastal city in Mount Lebanon governorate in Lebanon, well known for its various beaches and beautiful landscape. The village is a mix of a semi urban lively market street, and three residential areas located on the three parallel hills of the town. Okaibe is best known for its 1-kilometre-long (0.6 mi) sandy beach sliced by the year-long-running "Nahr Ibrahim" river, alongside one of the best fish markets in the country.

The village has a population of 5000 citizens, majorly Christian-Maronite similar to all the neighboring Kesserwan villages. okaibe contains 6 churches, 2 monasteries, 2 chapels, and one hindu temple for the indian community which constitut a lage minority.

Okaibe host now around 2000 syrians muslims refugees(arabs, Turkmen and kurds).The local population of okaibe is modern and connected to Mediterranean sea culture, its totally similar to cypriot and greek societies. Religious practice is considered a private matter. the adherence of christian faith in okaibe constitutes more than 95% but the sunday church attendance has fallen in recent years to less than 15% in 2016. Specially because of negative view toward priests and church organisation and the growing secularism between youngsters.

Geography

Okaibe is located around 27 km (17 mi) north of Beirut, in the district of Kesserwan. The city has a 2 km (1.2 mi) coastal front consisting of sandy and rocky beaches along with a remarkable crystal blue water. Moreover, it is renowned for the year-long running river known as " Nahr Ibrahim".

The city is bordered by Nahr Ibrahim and zaytoun to the north, Bouar to the South, and Al-Nammoura to the east.

The five Communal areas in Okaibe are Al-mina (Arabic translation for "port"), Boukak El dine, Kfarchiham, kmayrze and jazayer nahr ibrahim . Al mina is along the coastal strip, while all other
