Naresh Vijaya Krishna (born January 20, 1960)[1] popularly known as Naresh, is an Indian film actor, politician[2] and social activist known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema and television. He ventured into cinema as a child artiste in 1970. He starred in around 200[3] films in a variety of roles like lead actor, father[4] and comedy roles. Some of the box office super hits he starred in were Rendu Jella Sita (1983), Sreevariki Prema Lekha (1984), Sri Kanaka Mahalaxmi Recording Dance Troupe (1987), Bava Bava Panneeru (1989), Manasu Mamatha (1990), Jamba Lakidi Pamba (1993) and many more as a lead actor. He also received the title H.E. (his Excellency) and received a PHD in arts (his 2nd doctorate) from the U.N. ICDRHRP[5] from the prestigious United Nations group.[6]

Personal life

Naresh was born in Chennai to actress Vijaya Nirmala and Krishna Murthy. He currently resides in Hyderabad, Telangana. Prior to joining theater, he attended Ramakrishna Mission High School, Hindu High School and did his college at Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan. He runs NGO in Hindupur and Hyderabad, has been married to Ramya Raghupathi and has three sons.[7][8][9]

Career

Film

Naresh acted as a child in the film Pandanti Kapuram in 1972 and did other films like Kavitha, Santosh Sowbhagyam and other films. He made his debut as an actor in a lead role with Prema Sankellu (1982), directed by his mother. He then starred in the box office hit Nalugu Stambhalata (1982), directed by Sri Jandhyala and produced by Navata Krishnam Raju, followed by Prema Sankellu, directed by her mother Vijaya Nirmala.[10] His other notable works include box office hits such as Rendu Jella Sita (1983), Sreevariki Prema Lekha (1984), Sri Kanaka Mahalaxmi Recording Dance Troupe (1987), Bava Bava Panneeru (1989), Manasu Mamatha (1990), Jamba Lakidi Pamba (1993), Malliswari (2004), Oka Oorilo (2005), 100% Love (2011) and Drushyam (2014). Other works of his include Drushyam (2015), Guntur Talkies (2016) and Sathamanam Bhavati in (2017).

Politics

Naresh is also an active politician, and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party state leader.[11]

He worked as a state youth wing president of AP, and state secretary BJP, state general secretary vice president for BJP and also contested from Hindupur parliamentary seat. He also did Padayatra of about 125 KM from Icchampally Project to Warangal along with his excellency C. Vidyasagar Rao garu for linking of "Krishna and Godavari" waters and is active in the Rayalaseema development and water related activities. He is the founder president of KIV Kalakarula Ikya Vidika[12] an NGO a non-profit and non-governmental organization, which predominately works for protecting dying ancient arts and supporting media artists.

Present

He is General Secretary of the Movie Artists Association,[13] runs a YouTube channel name called PopCorn TV, and also promotes organic farming for healthy life. He is the president of Kalakarula Ikya Vedika[12] a forum for arts and artistes since (2010).

Accolades

He has received state Nandi Award for Best Actor for Sogasu Chuda Taramaa? (1995) and Nandi Special Jury Award for Chitram Bhalare Vichitram (1992) and platinum award for best feature film, Parampara[16] (2014). He has also received one Television Nandi Award for his work in Doordarshan's Munimanikyam Gari Kantham Kadhalu.[17]

He starred in films like Shrutilayalu (1987), that premiered at the International Film Festival of India and Hindustan The Mother (2000), which premiered at the International Film Festival of India, BFI London Film Festival and Mumbai Film Festival.[18][19][20][21] In 2007 he starred in Mee Sreyobhilashi, which also premiered at the International Film Festival of India.[22] In 2014, he starred in Parampara, which won the Platinum Award for Best Feature at the International Indonesian Movie Awards, and premiered at the Jakarta International Film Festival.[23][24]

He also gave a lecture[25] in University of Bedfordshire university‌ of Landon about displaying arts in Indian films in the presence of vice chancellor and also received Servant Of The Poor award on the occasion of the 4th national meet of CNRI held during 4–6 November 2009 at New Delhi, presented by Honorable union minister for rural development C. P. Joshi.

Academy Of Universal Global Peace as presented the honorable doctorate the degree of 'Doctor of Arts' [26] in the year 2016 in the presence of the board of world governing council of governors of the academy, New York, USA.
