Multhan
Multhan is a town and former Rajput jagir and (feudatory) princely state held from Dhar State.
History
The town was the first capital city of Dhar State from its 1729 founding until the Raja's seat was transferred in 1732 to Dharanagar, which gave that Maratha salute state its name.
On 13 October 1657, Multhan princely state was founded as a jagir, held as a Rajput thakorate of Dhar, yet its jagirdars, technically Thakore and talukdar, assumed the lofty, regal-sounding title Raja.
The estate consists of 29 villages in the Badnawar pargana.
Sandla became in turn a thikana of thakorate Multhan, also Rajput-held.
During the British raj (from 10 January 1819 in Dhar), Multhan was in the indirect rule sway of the colonial Bhopawar Agency until that merged into the Central India Agency.
