Mark D. Smith (born January 5, 1952) is the Minority Leader of the Iowa House of Representatives and the Iowa State Representative from the 43rd District. He has served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2001 to 2003 in the 64th District and since 2003 in the 43rd District. He received his BS from Graceland College and his MSW from the University of Iowa. He is employed by the Substance Abuse Treatment Unit of Central Iowa (SATUCI) as the Director of Special Projects and is an adjunct instructor of Social Work for the University of Iowa.

As of October 2011, Smith serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Administration and Rules, Environmental Protection, Ethics, Human Resources, and Judiciary committees. He also serves on the Commission on Tobacco User Prevention and Control and on the Iowa Comprehensive Health Insurance Board. His prior political experience includes serving on the Osceola City Council from 1981 to 1983.

On October 17, 2007, Smith endorsed Barack Obama for President.
