Susan Kay Christensen[1] (born April 27, 1962)[2] is an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Iowa.

Education

Christensen received her undergraduate degree from Judson University[1] and her law degree from Creighton University School of Law.[3]

She practiced law in Harlan, Iowa for 16 years from 1991–2007.[4][1]

State court service

She became a district associate judge in October 2007 and served in that capacity until her appointment as a district judge. In November 2015 she became a state district court judge.[4][5][1]

Appointment to Iowa Supreme Court

Christensen was one of three finalists sent to the Governor for consideration.[6] In August 2018 Governor Kim Reynolds appointed Christensen to the Iowa Supreme Court to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Bruce B. Zager.[3] On September 21, 2018 she was sworn into office.[7] Christensen is Reynolds' first appointment to the Iowa Supreme Court.[8] She became the first female since 2011 and the third female overall to join the court.[8]

Personal life

Christensen was born and raised in Harlan, Iowa.[4] Her father was former Justice Jerry L. Larson who served on the Supreme Court from 1978–2008.[8] She is a registered Republican.[4]
