Superlatives
Among the oldest living and earliest surviving winners and nominees of Academy Awards in directing and acting categories, the following superlatives emerge:
- Luise Rainer (1910–2014) held the record as the oldest living winner in any category until her death at age 104 on December 30, 2014.[4]
- George Kennedy (1925–2016) held the record as the oldest living winner in the Best Supporting Actor category until his death at age 91 on February 28, 2016.[5]
- Martin Landau (1928–2017) held the record as the oldest living winner in the Best Supporting Actor category, following the death of George Kennedy, until his own death at age 89 on July 15, 2017.
