List of mosques in Hyderabad

Hyderabad has a Muslim population of ~1.71 million,[1] and is home to a large number of mosques and dargahs. Many of these mosques were built during the reign of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and the Nizams of Hyderabad.

Mosques

  • Makkah Masjid – The Makkah Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India, with a capacity of 10,000 worshippers. Close to Charminar, the mosque is located in the old city. It was built by Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah. It is said to have been built with bricks made from the soil brought from Mecca, hence the name.
  • Masjid E Ibad Ur Rahman is a Centre for Various Islamic & Social Activities, located in the vicinity of the Historical Monument of Hyderabad i.e. Golconda Fort.

Masjid, which was primarily established for the 5 Times Daily Salaah (Prayer), later became a hub for the Social and Religious activities, catering the need of the Muslim society in the city of Hyderabad.
