Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station also known as MGBS earlier known as Imlibun (means forest of tamarind trees). Imlibun is a bus station in the southern part of Hyderabad, India. It is unofficially known as the Imlibun bus station. This bus terminus is situated at Imlibun island on the Musi river and is owned by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). It is accessible by two major and two minor road bridges, though only one is accessible.[1] It is the third Largest Bus station in India in terms of area occupying 20 acres (81,000 m2), followed after Chennai and Delhi .

History

The bus station was built during the Nizam rule, and was earlier located on the banks of Musi river. It was built in the shape of a dome and was named Imlibun. Later, for its expansion the Musi river bed was filled and a new facility was constructed.

Services

MGBS mainly serves the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It also serves other neighbouring states like Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and arrive at this bus station daily.

Infrastructure

MGBS covers an area 20 acres (81,000 m2) and built-up area in eight-hectare complex. It was completed at a cost of Rs 13 crores. There are 150 platforms for incoming and outgoing buses, a waiting hall of 7,380 square meters and a shopping complex of 3,455 square meters besides a 5,000 square meters area for private parking.

There are many bus stations owned by TSRTC in Hyderabad and come under Hyderabad Depot-1. This is one of the two terminal points in Hyderabad for long distance. Palle velugu, Express, Deluxe, Super Luxury, Indra A/C, Garuda, Garuda Plus and Vennela A/C sleeper are some of buses which are operated by TSRTC from MGBS.
