Lebanon at the AFC Asian Cup

Lebanon national football team has only participated in one AFC Asian Cup, the 2000 AFC Asian Cup in which Lebanon was awarded as host of the tournament after healing from the Lebanese Civil War.[1] It is also their best record to date, after ended up in group stage and won just two points.

Traditionally, Lebanon is considered much weaker than other teams in the West Asian Football Federation, and it has been demonstrated by the poor performance of Lebanon in majority of its Asian Cup qualifications, or even their participation as well. Lack of football coverage, poor infrastructures[2] and numerous conflicts in the country have also undermined Lebanon's football ability, and prior to 2019 AFC Asian Cup, they and Yemen were the only two Arab countries that didn't qualify to the Asian Cup via. qualification round. However, Lebanon's incredible 2014 World Cup campaign has signaled the renaissance of Lebanese football, and would pave way for Lebanon to go into the Asian Cup in five years later. Their second debut will come after 19 years absence from their maiden appearance.
