The Kanyakumari Express is a superfast daily overnight Train operated by Southern Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Service

This train runs between Kanyakumari and Chennai Egmore. It covers the distance of Chennai - Trichy in a very short time (5 hrs, 20 minutes) when compared to the Nellai Express. This was classified as a superfast train as the average speed of the train is greater than 55 km/h[2]

Route

This train runs through the chord line and continues through Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Satur, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli, Valliyur, Nagercoil junction and Kanyakumari. In return, it stops at Mambalam also.

Numbering

As per the numbering convention of Indian Railways, this train is allotted a number -12634 for the journey between Kanyakumari and Chennai and 12633 for journey between Chennai and Kanyakumari.[2]

Traction

As the route is fully eelectridied, Royapuram based WAP-7 hauls this train from end to end.
