National roads in Poland |
Expressway S7 or express road S7 (in Polish Droga ekspresowa S7) is a major road in Poland which has been planned to run from Gdańsk on the Baltic coast through Elbląg, Warsaw, Radom, Kielce and Kraków to Rabka near the border with Slovakia. On almost the entire route, the S7 will be built by upgrading the existing National Road 7 (DK 7). Its total planned length is 720 km (450 mi), of which 264.2 km (164.2 mi) has been built and a further 98.45 km (61.17 mi) was under construction in April 2015.
The upgrade is part of a European plan to fund 330 kilometers of new express roads in Poland[1].
As of January 2018, the longest stretch of this road that has been completed is a 70 km (43 mi) long section between Elbląg and Napierki (south of Gdańsk). In June 2012, the S7 expressway, south of Gdańsk, formed the city's southern bypass and was opened to the public. In July 2013, the second carriageway of the Kielce bypass was completed and fully opened to traffic. Two stretches of the Southern Warsaw Bypass opened to traffic in July 2013 and September 2013, respectively. In July 2017, an extension of the S7 expressway from Orońsko to just to the south of Szydłowiec was opened. In September 2017, an extension of the S7 expressway from Jędrzejów to the border of the Holy Cross Province and Lesser Poland opened
According to current government plans, this road is to be completed by 2020.[2]
