Binibining Pilipinas 2016, the 53rd edition of Binibining Pilipinas, was held on April 17, 2016 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City, Philippines.[1] Pia Wurtzbach (Miss Universe 2015) crowned Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina as Miss Universe Philippines 2016 while Janicel Lubina (Miss International 2015 Top 10 finalist) crowned Kylie Fausto Verzosa as Binibining Pilipinas International 2016. The pageant also awarded four other titles to participate in minor international beauty pageants in which Christi McGarry (Miss Intercontinental 2015 1st runner-up) crowned Jennifer Alviar Hammond as Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016, Rogelie Catacutan (Miss Supranational 2015 Top 20 semifinalist) crowned Joanna Louise Deapera Eden as Binibining Pilipinas Supranational 2016, Parul Shah (Miss Grand International 2015 3rd runner-up) crowned Nicole Ignacio Cordoves as Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016, and Ann Lorraine Colis (Miss Globe 2015) crowned Nichole Marie Ramos Manalo as Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2016 as their successors at the end of the event. Completing the court were, Angelica Recto Alita, 20, first runner-up; and Jehza Mae Sotillo Huelar, 20, second runner-up.[2][3][4]

Six titles were awarded to participate internationally (2 titles from the Big Four international beauty pageants and 4 minor international beauty pageants) and two runner-up positions were given in the following order:

Binibining Pilipinas 2016 candidates were evaluated by a board of judges:

  • Paolo Roxas[7] – youth representative and university student
  • Lauren Dyogi – ABS-CBN Head of Television Production
  • Cory Vidanes – business executive and ABS-CBN's Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast
  • Cherry Soriano – news anchor and former Philippine Ambassador to Qatar
  • Betsy Westendorp de Brias – artist
  • Amb. Igor Anatolyevich Khovaev – diplomat and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Philippines
  • Ian Veneracion[8] – actor, licensed pilot and Philippine representative in the International Paragliding Competition
  • Amb. Jan Top Christensen – diplomat, assigned to re-open the Danish embassy in Manila
  • Amb. Roland Van Remoortele – career diplomat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium and Ambassador to the Philippines
  • Olivia Jordan[9] – actress, model and Miss USA 2015
  • Sec. Adrian Cristobal Jr. – graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and Ateneo de Manila and Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry

Sec. Adrian Cristobal Jr. was the chairman of the board of judges. SGV & Co. was the official tabulator.

Disqualified contestants

  • Kim Ross de los Santos (former candidate no. 20) was ultimately disqualified from the pageant because of an unreleased daring test fashion shoot she did in the past which was released in the public media. de los Santos was replaced by Geisha Naganuma of Marilao, Bulacan.[10][11]
  • Janelle Olafson (former candidate no. 1) was disqualified from the pageant due to her allegedly lewd promotional campaign for a breast cancer awareness campaign in New York City, United States.[12][13] She was replaced by Gail Doraine Ventic of Angeles City, Pampanga.[14]

Post-pageant notes

  • Maxine Medina, Miss Universe Philippines, finished Top 6 on the Miss Universe 2016 held on January 30, 2017 at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.
  • Kylie Verzosa, Binibining Pilipinas International, was crowned Miss International 2016 during the finals held on October 27 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
  • Joanna Eden, Binibining Pilipinas Supranational, was hailed as one of the Top 25 quarter-finalists at Miss Supranational 2016 held in Poland on December 2, 2016.
  • Jennifer Hammond, Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental, was hailed as one of the Top 15 finalists at Miss Intercontinental 2016 during the finals held on October 16 at Stein Studios in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
  • Nicole Cordoves, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, was hailed as 1st runner-up at Miss Grand International 2016 during the finals held on October 25 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, USA.
  • Nichole Manalo, Binibining Pilipinas Globe, was later hailed as 3rd runner-up at Miss Globe 2016 and won the special award of "Miss Dream Girl of the World" during the finals held in Albania last November 25, 2016.
  • Jeslyn Santos, Binibining Pilipinas 2016 candidate was crowned Miss United Continents 2016 pageant in Ecuador last September 24, 2016. She was the first non-Latina and Asian winner of the pageant.
  • Karen Ibasco, later joined Miss Philippines Earth 2017 held on July 15, 2017 where she was crowned the winner. She represented the Philippines at the Miss Earth 2017 pageant held on November 4, 2017 where she was crowned as the winner.[15][16]
  • Sarah Christine Bona, Binibining Pilipinas 2016 candidate was crowned Miss Nature Intercontinental 2017 pageant in Poland last September 5, 2017. She was the first title holder and Asian winner of the pageant.
  • Jehza Mae Huelar, Binibining Pilipinas 2016 2nd runner-up, relinquished her award to join Binibining Pilipinas 2017 where she placed in the top 15. She joined again in 2018 where she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas - Supranational 2018.
