Behror (Hindi: बहरोड़) is a city in Alwar district of Rajasthan India. It is popularly known as Ahirwal region. Behror is also a part of the National Capital Region.[1]

Geography

Behror is located at 27°53′N 76°17′E / 27.88°N 76.28°E / 27.88; 76.28.[2] It has an average elevation of 312 metres (1,024 ft). Behror is midway between Jaipur and Delhi, at a distance of 130 km from the State Capital and 120 km from the National Capital and connected to both by NH-8, which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project of NHAI. Recently NH-8 had undergone a major development and now it has 6 lane road from Jaipur to Delhi for better connectivity between the two metropolitans. Behror has also direct connectivity to the District capital, Alwar which is 60 km apart. Behror tehsil total population is 359,248 and Behror Town total population is 29,531 as per 2011 census.

Sahibi River flows 15 km away from Behror but now the river has almost dried up due to blocking of its drain area by construction of settlements from local people.

Industry

Behror has been industrialized since the early 90's; the industrial area is known as RIICO (Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited) Industrial area.

Neemrana is another industrial area at a distance of 10 km from Behror towards Delhi which also comes under RIICO.

The Behror city is divided into 25 wards for which elections are held every 5 years. The Behror Municipality has population of 29,531 of which 15,570 are males while 13,961 are females as per report released by Census India 2011.

Moreover, Child Sex Ratio in Behror is around 842 compared to Rajasthan state average of 888. Literacy rate of Behror city is 84.07% higher than state average of 66.11%. In Behror, Male literacy is around 92.15% while female literacy rate is 75.13%.

Behror Municipality has total administration over 5,484 houses to which it supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage. It is also authorize to build roads within Municipality limits and impose taxes on properties coming under its jurisdiction.

Spoken Language

Ahirwati, also called ‘Hirwati’ (the language of Ahirs also Language of Rajputana), is spoken in Ahirwal region.

Rewari, Mahendergarh, Narnaul, Gurgaon, Kotkasim, Kotputli, Bansur, Behror and Mundawar may be considered as the centre of Ahirwati speaking area.
