Azarshahr (Persian: آذرشهر; also Romanized as Āz̄arshahr, Âzaršahr, Azərşəhr, or Āz̄ar Shahr; also known as Tufarqan (Persian: توفارقان) , also Romanized as Dehkhvāreqān) [2] is a city and capital of Azarshahr County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 44,887.[3]
Azarshahr lies in the south west of the Sahand Mountain.
The historical name of this city is Tufarqan. The predominant language spoken in Azarshahr is Azerbaijani.
