African Americans in Alabama

African Americans in Alabama are residents of the state of Alabama who are of African American ancestry. As of the 2010 U.S. Census, African Americans were 26.5% of the state's population.[1] [2]

A published report attributes the election visitory of Doug Jones, a U.S. senator from Alabama, to higher-than-expected turnout by African American voters.[3]

Health

African Americans in Alabama have poorer health indicators than whites in areas such as life expectancy and infant mortality rate.[4]
