Football

Abington is well known for its athletics program and most notably its football program. Abington has been referred many times as "The Cream of the Crop" in Southeastern Massachusetts. The football team has won four State Championships (2002, 2005, 2012, 2014). They have also won ten South Shore League Championships in 1975, 1981, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, and 2013. They have also had three undefeated teams in 2006, 2008, and 2012. All of these accomplishments have come under the tutelage of legendary head football coach Jim Kelliher, who has been at the helm since 1971. Abington has also recently won state championships in baseball (2009) and basketball (2009). Abington is also well known for the longtime chant of "Green Wave Pride" or GWP, which is labeled on the football helmets and jerseys as well as the football field and on every other sports jersey in the school.

Abington's football team won its third state championship in school history in 2012. they defeated St. Mary's High School of Lynn, Massachusetts, in the Division 4 State Championship by a score of 14–8. Abington also capped an undefeated season in 2012 with the win, ending the season with a 13–0 record.

In 2014, the Green Wave once again advanced to the state championship game against Northbridge High School. They defeated league rival East Bridgewater High School in the sectional finals, avenging their lone loss of the season, which was for the South Shore League Large Championship. The Green Wave won its fourth state championship with a 36-6 blowout victory over Northbridge High School on December 6, 2014, at Gillette Stadium.

Abington also set a Southeastern Massachusetts record for football attendance on November 14, 2008, in game against rival Mashpee High School. Both teams entered the game undefeated at 9–0 and ranked in the state Top 25 polls, as the South Shore League title and a playoff berth were on the line.
