Regular international biometric passport (ICAO-compliant), issued starting February 2010
  • 2 February The ICAO version of Malaysian passport was launched.
  • 2 February The sodomy trial of Anwar Ibrahim began for the second time since 1998.
  • 9 February The Federal Court declared that Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was a rightful Menteri Besar (Chief Minister) of Perak.
  • 12 February Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Mohamed Hashim quit the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) party.
  • 20 February Penang Hill’s iconic funicular train made its final run after 87 years and it will be replaced by a RM63 mil upgraded system, which was expected to be ready seven months after.
  • 23 February A large part of the 200-year-old Ho Ann Kiong Chinese temple in the Chinatown Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu was destroyed in a fire. Almost 60% of the building was destroyed in the 9.30pm fire on Monday night. No fatalities were reported.
  • 23 February A Malaysian consular employee was stabbed to death in a "ferocious attack" outside his home in a suspected road rage incident in Sydney, Australia.
  • 27 February A 3-year-old girl Syafia Humairah Sahari was killed in an act of abuse.

  • 2 July The second submarine KD Tun Abdul Razak arrives in Lumut Naval Base, Perak.
  • 6 July – 22 August A population census was carried out nationwide, result shows that the nation's population was at 28,334,135.
  • 9 July Proton cars celebrates its 25th anniversary. Launching of the Proton EMAS prototype cars.
  • 16 July The federal government announced a reduction in the subsidies for fuel, specifically petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as sugar. Subsidies for RON 95 and diesel will be reduced by five sen per litre and LPG by 10 sen per kg. RON 97 petrol will no longer be subsidised but will be subject to a managed float, with the price determined by an automatic pricing mechanism. The new price for RON 95 is RM1.85 per litre compared with RM1.80 per litre. For sugar, the price has been adjusted upward by 25 sen per kg to RM1.90 per kg (previously RM1.65 per kg).
  • 26 July Heavy vehicles will be banned during peak hours in the morning to ease congestion at certain routes of the PLUS Expressways in the Klang Valley, beginning 2 August The affected routes included New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) between Shah Alam and Jalan Duta, North–South Expressway Northern Route between Sungai Buloh and Bukit Lanjan and the Federal Highway Route 2 between Subang and Sungai Rasau.
  • 28 July Bunga Raya (Chinese Hibiscus) celebrates its 50th golden jubilee.
  • 29 July Former Transport Minister Ling Liong Sik is charged with cheating in the billion-dollar Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal but pleads innocent.
  • 31 July The Hari Pahlawan (Warriors Day) celebrations is held at the Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur for the first time.
