- 23 February — Ahmad and Muhammad Rosli, Malaysian siamese twins are successfully separated at King Fahd National Guard Hospital, Saudi Arabia.[2]
- 14 April — The Express Rail Link (ERL) Malaysia's first high speed train is launched.[3]
- 19 April – About 14 more suspected hardcore Kumpulan Militan Malaysia (KMM) members, including a woman were arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) bringing to 62 the number of KMM members held since May 2001.[4]
- 22 April — Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin is installed as 12th Yang di-Pertuan Agong[5]
- 8 June — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad visit Vatican City and meet Pope John Paul II for the first time.[6]
- 22 June — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that he will resign from the office and be replaced by Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.[7]
- 23 June — Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) president, Fadzil died on after undergoing heart bypass surgery. He was succeeded as PAS President and leader of the opposition in Parliament by Abdul Hadi Awang.[8]
- July — The Pendang MP by-elections, Barisan Nasional (BN) win in this elections.[9]
- 8 August – Highland Towers collapse :[10]
- Judge, Datuk James Foong at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, Wisma Denmark, Jalan Ampang, decided on 7 out of 10 people who sued 60 residents, relatives and families of the Highland Towers tragedy as negligent.
- 21 November — The bungalow of the Affin Bank chairman General (RtD) Tan Sri Ismail Omar collapse causing landslide in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor. Eight people were killed.[11]
- 4 December – Highland Towers collapse :
- Arab-Malaysian Finance Bhd (AMFB) appealed to Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Lamin Yunus to meet with Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Mokhtar Sidin and Datuk Mohd Saari Yusoff on compensation to be paid.[12]
- At the Court of Appeal, three judges led by Datuk Gopal Sri Ram with Datuk Richard Malanjum and Datuk Wira Ghazali Mohd Yusoff ordered three negligent parties to pay damages is Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) 15%, engineer Wong Yuen Kean 10%, Arab-Malaysian 30%, Metrolux Sdn Bhd and MBF Property Services Sdn Bhd 20%.[13][14]
- 18 December — Sipadan and Ligitan Islands are officially awarded to Malaysia by the International Court of Justice (ICJ)[15]
