Wereldkampioenschap voetbal 2014 (Groep C) Griekenland - Ivoorkust
Dit artikel gaat over de wedstrijd in de groepsfase in groep C tussen Griekenland en Ivoorkust die gespeeld werd op dinsdag 24 juni 2014 tijdens het wereldkampioenschap voetbal 2014. Op dezelfde dag werden de wedstrijden Italië – Uruguay, Costa Rica – Engeland en Japan – Colombia gespeeld.

Voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd
- Griekenland staat bij aanvang van het toernooi op de twaalfde plaats van de FIFA-wereldranglijst. Het land schommelt sinds de zomer van 2004 rond de vijftiende positie op de wereldranglijst, met in deze periode een dieptepunt in juli en augustus 2006, toen het land op de 32e positie stond. Zijn hoogtepunt bereikte het Grieks voetbalelftal in april 2008 en in oktober 2011 (achtste positie).[1] In totaal hebben zeven andere landen van de UEFA een betere positie op de FIFA-wereldranglijst.
- Griekenland speelde voor deze wedstrijd twee andere wedstrijden. De eerste wedstrijd tegen Colombia verloor Griekenland met 3-0 en de tweede wedstrijd tegen Japan werd gelijkgespeeld met 0-0.
- Ivoorkust staat bij aanvang van het toernooi op de 23e plaats van de wereldranglijst. Na het dieptepunt van Ivoorkust in maart 2004, april 2004 en mei 2004 – toen Ivoorkust op de 75e positie stond – kwam Ivoorkust in een langzame en schommelige periode van stijging. Het land bereikte zijn hoogtepunt toen het in februari 2013, april 2013 en mei 2013 op de twaalfde positie stond. Vanaf toen daalde Ivoorkust naar zijn huidige positie.[2] Eén ander land aangesloten bij de CAF wist in juni 2014 een betere positie dan Ivoorkust op de wereldranglijst te bemachtigen; dat was Algerije.
- Ivoorkust won zijn eerste en verloor zijn tweede wedstrijd; de eerste wedstrijd tegen Japan met 2-1 en de tweede wedstrijd tegen Colombia met 2-1.
- Deze landen speelden nooit eerder tegen elkaar.[3]
