Yvonne Magwas

Yvonne Magwas (born in November 28, 1979 in Rodewisch in Eastern Germany (GDR)) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).[1]

Education and early career

Yvonne Magwas grew up in the Vogtland in the cities of Falkenstein and Auerbach and finished in 1998 the local Goethe-Gymnasium with Abitur. From 1999, she studied sociology, psychology and business administration at the Technical University of Chemnitz.

Already during her studies, Magwas founded a company to help match applicants with relevant internships and to carry out investigations in the field of human resources and organizational development. She completed her studies in 2006 as a sociologist. From 2005 to 2013 she was chief of staff to Robert Hochbaum MP.

Political career

Magwas joined the Young Union (JU) in 1998 and the CDU in 2001. From 2001 to 2006 she served as district chairwoman of the Junge Union Vogtland, from 2003 to 2008 member of the board of the Young Union in Saxony. Since 2008 she has been the deputy district chair of the CDU Vogtland.

In the local elections in 2003, Magwas was elected Councillor in Auerbach and district councillor in the Vogtland and practiced the two functions until 2009 or rather until 2005.

In the 2013 federal elections, Magwas was elected as a member of the German Bundestag – being on 12th position of CDU regional list. She is a full member of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and the Committee on Culture and Media. There she is rapporteur on rental policy, housing and urban development in the Committee on Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety. Since 2018, she has been serving on the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment.

In addition to her committee assignments, Magwas is a member of the Berlin-Taipei Parliamentary Circle of Friends. Within her CDU/CSU parliamentary group, she is a member of the working group on municipal policies.

Political positions

In June 2017, Magwas voted against Germany’s introduction of same-sex marriage.[4] Ahead of the Christian Democrats’ leadership election in 2018, she publicly endorsed Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer to succeed Angela Merkel as the party’s chair.[5]

Personal life

Since 2018, Magwas has been in a relationship with Marco Wanderwitz.[6]
